Step-By-Step Instructions for Connecting to the Web VPN

Information Technology at Johns Hopkins has recently implemented a new “web” VPN solution. The new VPN solution improves remote access and enhance security. Unlike connecting to the VPN using a VPN desktop client, connecting using the Web VPN provides the following capabilities and benefits:

Step-By-Step Instructions for Current VPN Users:

Step 1: Get set up for MFA:

Click here to enroll in the myIT Login Code program.

Or

Click on the VPN icon in the myJH quick links found on the left hand browser pane and click on the Setup MFA icon to enroll in the myIT Login Code program.

You will need to enter the Hopkins myIT Login Code displayed in your Authenticator App to connect to the VPN.  The example below is for entering the Hopkins code 441998.

Step 2: Connect to the Web VPN:

Logon to the myJH Portal at my.jh.edu using your JHED.

Click on the VPN icon in the myJH quick links found on the left hand browser pane and click on the Web VPN icon to connect to the Web VPN.

You are now connected to the VPN in a tab within your web browser!

Step-By-Step Instructions for New VPN Users:

Step 1: Get set up for MFA:

Click here to enroll in the myIT Login Code program.

Or

Click on the VPN icon in the myJH quick links found on the left hand browser pane and click on the Setup MFA icon to enroll in the myIT Login Code program.

You will need your myIT Login Code displayed in your Authenticator app to connect to the VPN. See example:

Step 2: Request access to the Web VPN:

Logon to the myJH Portal at my.jh.edu using your JHED.

Click on the VPN icon in the myJH quick links found on the left hand browser pane and click on the Request VPN icon to request access to the VPN.

Step 3: Connect to the Web VPN.

After receiving an email that your VPN access has been approved, logon to the myJH Portal at my.jh.edu your JHED.

Click on the VPN icon in the myJH quick links found on the left hand browser pane and click on the Web VPN icon to connect to the Web VPN.

You are now connected to the VPN in a tab within your web browser!
